Provenance
The painting “Deux femmes nues assises” by Pablo Picasso was purchased directly from the artist by Picasso’s art dealer Paul Rosenberg shortly after its creation in 1920. Rosenberg sold the work to John Quinn just two months later at a 50 percent profit. The work remained in Quinn’s collection until his death in 1924, after which it became the property of Gottlieb Friedrich Reber. Walter P. Chrysler Jr. negotiated the purchase of the work with Reber as early as 1936, but was only able to acquire it for his collection in February 1939 at an exhibition at the Marie Harriman Gallery. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the painting “Deux femmes nues assises” from the Chrysler Jr. collection through the Myrtil Frank Gallery for its holdings in 1966.
