Provenance
Little is known about the whereabouts of the painting “Femme au miroir (Femme accroupie)” by Pablo Picasso after its creation in 1937. In 1939, it was verifiably in the possession of the art dealer Paul Rosenberg, who had to emigrate from Paris to New York in June 1940. However, the work had already been in the USA since 1939 and was subsequently presented in various American exhibitions as a loan from Rosenberg until 1945. From at least 1947 to 1966, it was part of Henry Clifford’s private collection. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the painting “Femme au miroir (Femme accroupie)” from Galerie Rosengart for its holdings in 1966.
