Provenance

The work “Kamel (in rhytm. Baumlandschaft)” by Paul Klee remained the property of the artist from the year of its creation in 1920 until 1932 at the latest. After Klee had given it to his art dealer Hans Goltz and Galerie Alfred Flechtheim on consignment, it was listed by Will Grohmann in his 1933 publication on the Ida Bienert Collection. As the publication reflects the holdings of the collection from 1932, the work belonged to the collector from this time at the latest and remained in her possession until at least 1954. It was then located in New York at Eugene Victor Thaw & Co. and the Nathan Gallery in Zurich, before becoming part of a private collection from 1964 at the latest. In 1966, Myrtil Frank arranged the sale of the work “Kamel (in rhytm. Baumlandschaft)” from the private Collection to the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen.
