Provenance

The painting “Fenêtre” by Robert Delaunay remained in the artist’s possession from its creation in 1912/1913 until presumably 1935. Sonia Delaunay, Robert Delaunay’s wife, suspected that the work had been lost during a move in 1935, but found it again in a private collection in Aix-en-Provence in the late 1950s. Pierre Loeb, owner of Galerie Pierre, purchased the work in Aix-en-Provence from the artist Félix-Tahar Aublet, therefore it can be assumed that it was in the same private collection. Aublet was in close contact with Sonia and Robert Delaunay and therefore probably purchased the work from the artist himself. Pierre Loeb brought the painting to the gallery of his son Albert Loeb in New York. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the painting “Fenêtre” from the gallery of Jan Krugier, Loeb’s later business partner, for its holdings in 1963.
