Provenance

The painting “Adam et Eve” by Fernand Léger remained the property of the artist from its creation in 1935/1939 until at least 1950. Carlo Frua de Angeli, with whom it can be traced from 1953, presumably purchased it directly from the artist. Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, a partner in Galerie Louise Leiris, purchased the work from Frua de Angeli in 1964 and immediately offered it for sale again. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the painting “Adam et Eve” from Kahnweiler through Galerie Michael Hertz for its holdings in 1965.
