Provenance

The painting “La tour aux rideaux” by Robert Delaunay remained the property of the artist from its creation in 1910 until presumably 1931. In 1931, Jean Coutrot had lent Sonia and Robert Delaunay 10,000 francs and received two paintings as collateral, one of which was described as “Fenêtre sur la Tour Eiffel.” As the work in the art collection can be proven to have been owned by Coutrot from 1935, it can be assumed that this was the painting that was given to Coutrot as collateral in 1931. After Coutrot died of suicide in 1941, the work remained the property of his wife until at least 1953. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the painting “La tour aux rideaux” from Galerie Werner Rusche for its holdings in 1965.
