Provenance

Shortly after its creation in 1913, Giorgio de Chirico gave his painting “La grande tour” to the poet Guillaume Apollinaire, who owned several of the artist’s works. After Guillaume Apollinaire died in the 1918-1920 flu pandemic, the painting became the property of his wife Jacqueline and was sold by her to Apollinaire’s publisher, the art collector Bernard Poissonier by 1937 at the latest. The work remained in Poissonier’s collection until 1976 and was subsequently offered for sale by Galerie Petit. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the painting “La grande tour” through Liberart Investment for its holdings in 1977.
