Provenance

The work “Kleines Seemannsheim” by Kurt Schwitters remained the property of the artist after its creation in 1926 and went to his son Ernst Schwitters after his death in 1948. From 1960 to 1963, the work was located in Lord’s Gallery, which, according to the catalogue raisonné published by the Sprengel Museum, purchased the work from Ernst Schwitters. In 1963, it returned to Schwitters’ ownership and was given to Marlborough Fine Art on consignment. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the work “Kleines Seemannsheim” from the estate of Kurt Schwitters through Marlborough Fine Art for its holdings in 1980.
