Provenance

The painting “Kathedrale zu Freiburg in der Schweiz” by August Macke was created shortly before the artist fell on the Western Front during the First World War in September 1914. After his death, the work became the property of his wife Elisabeth Erdmann-Macke and remained in the estate until at least 1961. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the painting “Kathedrale zu Freiburg in der Schweiz” from Galerie Änne Abels for its holdings in 1963.
