Provenance

The painting “Mauerbild mit Metallen” by Willi Baumeister remained the property of the artist from the year of its creation in 1923. After his death in 1955, it became the property of Baumeister’s wife Margarete as part of his artistic estate. In 1962, she gave the work to the Museum Folkwang in Essen through Galerie Michael Hertz, Bremen, for possible purchase. It remained there on loan until it was sold to the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in 1964.
