Provenance
The work “Proun G 7” by El Lissitzky entered the collection of Hjalmar Gabrielson immediately after its creation in 1923. The collection was established in Berlin in 1922 and 1923 under the consultation of Arthur Segal. As Gabrielson’s daughter presumably consigned Lissitzky’s work to the auction of the Stuttgarter Kunstkabinett in May 1960, it can be assumed that the work did not leave the Gabrielson collection and estate until then. Around a year later, in June 1961, it was offered for sale at Klipstein & Kornfeld. There it was purchased by Galerie Chalette, which possessed it until it was sold to the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen. The latter purchased the work “Proun G 7” in 1972 for its holdings.
