Provenance
After its creation in 1931, the relief “Amphore (Vase)” by Hans (Jean) Arp became part of the collection of the Cahiers d’art founded by Christian Zervos. As part of this collection, the work was offered for sale at the Hôtel Drouot auction house in Paris in April 1933. The circumstances of the sale are unknown, but the work was in Zervos’ private collection from 1933 to 1966. He therefore presumably purchased it himself or the relief did not find a buyer and therefore remained in Zervos’ possession. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen purchased the relief “Amphore (Vase)” through Galerie Michael Hertz from Galerie Point Cardinal for its holdings in 1967.
